In different epochs people admire different standards of beauty. Women
have always resorted to various tricks to seem more attractive and
natural at the same time. With the advent of plastic surgery, and
particularly breast implant,
they got the possibility to feel like being skilled sculptures,
reshaping their bodies until they achieve perfection.
Being invented in 1961 silicone breast implants are widespread in
Europe and South America. In the US they were under restriction, but,
finally, Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved silicone implants
using, as well as saline breast implants. First FDA removed silicone
breast implants due to different complications among operated women.
After oxygen, silicon is the most prevalent element on earth which is
extracted from quartz, sand and rock. In combination with hydrogen,
carbon and oxygen it forms silicone which is a part not only of breast
implants but also of many others like facial implants or artificial
joints. Actually silicone can be applied to almost each part of the
body – heart, nose, ear, gastrointestinal and respiratory
tract
etc.
During their five generations silicone breast implants have
considerably changed. At the beginning the amount of gel leakage was
rather high, but after numerous research
silicone breast implants were perfected. Nowadays the elastomer
silicone shell contains three layers which prevent the gel bleed. This
innovation may have made the implants a little firmer, although they
remain rather soft and lifelike. The disadvantage of silicone breast
implants is that they need longer incisions. On the contrary to
saline-filled breast implants, silicone implants are places as a whole,
that is why they leave more visible scars. As a too large breast implant
may provoke the tissue extension, one should choose the future breast
size very carefully.
With its advantages and weak points silicone breast implants are for
women with wrinkled and rippled skin after saline implants, with very
thin skin, of with very rich that needs lift.
